DIRECTOR OF CONGREGATIONAL LEARNING
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Congregational Learning who will inspire our connection to Judaism by leading our lifelong learning programs. The Director of Congregational Learning will work with our cantor, who serves as the spiritual leader of the congregation. The successful candidate should have a background in education and will lead all religious education options including the religious school, which is a one day per week program held on Sundays.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ordained rabbi from an accredited rabbinical school
- Passion for teaching
- Experience or education in curriculum development and educational administration
- Approachable, supportive, and embracing of our diverse community
- Pulpit experience
- Fluent in Torah cantillation
- Comfortable with Reform and Conservative liturgy
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as Director of Congregational Learning in collaboration with our cantor, Cantor Vera Broekhuysen, who serves as our community’s spiritual leader
- Religious education ownership and participation including:
- Active administration of the religious school including staff and students
- Identify and implement positive changes to the religious school
- Participate in b’nei mitzvah preparation and services
- Teach middle/high school students on Sunday mornings during school year
- Sunday morning presence during religious school throughout the school year
- Lead services associated with the religious school curriculum
- Participation in family education activities
- Be an active member of the religious school committee
- Collaborate with the adult education committee to develop programming
- Lead occasional evening adult education classes
- Work with the cantor to develop and lead other learning options
- Energize, attract, and retain membership
- Conduct twenty-four weekly Shabbat minyan services (including Torah/Haftarah chanting)
- Two Shabbat mornings/month, with parashah study
- Shabbat schedule to be coordinated with the cantor
- Co-lead the following services: High Holy Days, Chanukah, MLK, Yom HaSho’ah, confirmation, HEFTY/high school, Shabbat in Song, Pesach, Sukkot, and Shavuot, as well as class services (occasional Friday nights and Saturday mornings throughout the school year)
- On-call for pastoral responsibilities if the cantor is unavailable, including Monday and Thursday
- Create a welcoming environment for interfaith families
- Additional responsibilities as time permit, including but not limited to board meetings, clergy association meetings, lifecycle events (when the cantor is unavailable), and outreach
SALARY AND HOURS
Hours: 30 hours/week (approximately)
- 75% in an educational capacity
- 25% in a rabbinic capacity
Salary range: $58,000–$67,000 commensurate with experience
