About Temple Emanu-El

Temple Emanu-El is a dynamic Reform congregation with a traditional, yet creative, orientation serving a community of diverse needs and backgrounds. Since 1937, members of the Jewish community of Greater Haverhill have joined together to express our Jewish identities through worship, education, social action, friendship, and socializing. As a congregation, we foster a deep commitment to a Jewish way of life and to the future of our community.

From the celebration of new life to the recitation of Kaddish, Temple Emanu-El is your spiritual family for honoring life cycle events as well as the Jewish holy days. Cantor Vera Broekhuysen, our members, and our staff assist in the preparation and celebration of b'nei mitzvah and confirmation, weddings, brit milah, and baby namings, and provide support in times of need. During the year, you will enjoy participating in our ritual services, including weekly Shabbat services as well as annual observances of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Sh'mini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, Purim, and other events which honor and celebrate the history of our people. We also have special community interfaith services commemorating Yom HaShoah and the life of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. that bring us together to strengthen our ties with the community outside our Temple.

Antiracism resources: The killing of George Floyd and the protests it has sparked remind us of the importance of educating ourselves on issues of racism and white privilege in America. A list of resources (websites, books, articles, television
programming, film, organizations) that may be of interest to adults and children can be found on HaSifriyah's webpage.

Shabbat and Holiday Melodies

Picture
Singing together is an exciting way to make holy community together. Hear melodies for Shabbat prayers and songs at home and in the synagogue, as well as many of the congregational tunes we use for our High Holy Day services!

Our Mission Statement:
We are a welcoming, diverse, Reform, sacred community committed to embracing and implementing the principles of tikkun olam.
Through prayer, study, and social interactions we honor and share our Judaic values across all generations.
