Among the Reeds:
The True Story of How a Family Survived the Holocaust

January 28, 2018
Breakfast 9:30am/Presentation 10:00am

When her son was born, Dr. Tammy Bottner, a Newburyport pediatrician, began experiencing flashbacks of fleeing the Nazis. She never experienced these events; they happened to her grandmother in Europe during the Second World War. In this memoir of her family’s experiences during the Holocaust, Dr. Bottner not only delves into stories of hardship and resilience in the face of tragedy, but also explores how these tragedies affect later generations. Can epigenetics, the science that examines how things that happen to us affect our genetic makeup, explain her memories? Did the trauma experienced by her ancestors literally alter her DNA? Join us for a riveting discussion on history and science.
